Pirate Party Ideas
We have created this guide to help you create your themed pirate party. If you are looking to host a party around your home then these tips will give you a step by step guide for your event. This is mainly aimed at adult themed parties as we have including some drinking games but the premis can be passed over to kids parties.Firstly the best way to theme a party is to invite your guess to take part in fancy dress. The great thing about a pirate themed party is you don’t have to spend too much money or go over the top to achieve that pirate look. There are thousands of costumes and accessories out there so you can find anything that would suit your taste. Whether it be a full on Jack Sparrow costume with wig and accessories or just a pirates eye pat and a hat. No pirate costume is complete with out a pirate pistol or swashbuckling sword...
So you have the theme organised, great, but what can you do to make your pirate invitation special? You can get your guessed in the pirate mood before they even arrive to the party, do you remember at school when you used a tea bag to make paper look old or vintage? That's a fantastic way to create the paper for your invite, for a more authentic look, sprinkle coffee onto the paper when damp. This gives the effect of dark stains and dirt and works a bit better than tea bags. use a lighter to burn the edges of the paper for an even more vintage look. For children just rip each edge to give you a similar effect.
You now have the paper, fantastic, you just need to add you info to the invite. A great way to get your guests excited about the event is to give each person attending a pirate name. So instead of to Simon, you would could say to Blackbeard... Give them instructions that there will be a pirate gathering at the party where you will meet other pirates and you must only call them by their pirate names. If they don’t call them by their pirate names at the party there will be a forfeit. The forfeit being either downing a shot of rum or talking like a pirate for one minute. We have designed a FREE pirate invitation that you can print out if you don't have time to create the above. This works just as well but doesn't look as effective as the above method. Check out our video for a step by step guide on how to achevie the aabove look.
Create Pirate Drinking Bottles
Collect all sorts of shaped glass bottles, cider and beer bottles are the best, start collecting these a few weeks before your party. You will need to sterilise them and wash thouraly, remove all of the labels from the bottles. If you have some address labels for letters use these to create a space to write individual pirate names on each bottle. Make the look old/vintage in a similar way to the above. You now have some authentic glasses for your pirate party and the best thing is there’s no washing up afterwards. (See the video below for a more detailed guide of what to do)There are loads of other ways you can themed your party. If you are making the food yourself a buffet can be great as you can simply change the name of normal food like pineapple on a stick is now called pineapple on swords for the night or onion bhajies are now called spicy cannon balls. Scatter gold chocolate coins around the table to look likr treasure.
Decorate the room with pirate bunting, take a look at our website www.thefilmcell.com for loads of pirate themed decorations and fancy dress accessories.
If you want something to do at the event other than acting like a pirate and drinking all night. There are loads of pirate games you can play. Pin the eye patch on the pirate, pin the cross on the treasure map or even pin the flag on the pirate ship. Pass the cannon ball is a pirte version of pass the parcel, inbetween each layer add a chocolate coin as pirate treasure. For adults pass the cannon ball is where players line up in teams and pass a black balloon (cannon ball) from person to person just using their knees. Finally you could organise a treasure hunt, make a map in the same way you made your invites and give clues to take your guests on a hunt around the house.
